Hypnosis 101
What is Hypnosis?
An altered state of consciousness, a changed or focused state of awareness, concentration, and perception.
Most simply put, it is a state of relaxation in which you are in total control and can accept or reject any suggestions you hear.
Everyday examples in which you’ve naturally experienced hypnosis:
Driving a car
Riding an elevator
Reading
Watching tv, movies or video
Daydreaming or “zoning out”
Suggestion oriented
A heightened sense of suggestibility that redirects the focus of both the conscious and sub-conscious minds.
Creates and utilizes deeper “trance states” as well as specific words and phrases to affect a positive outcome by re-training the inner mind.
Self-hypnosis.
ALL hypnosis is SELF-hypnosis. You choose to enter hypnosis, stay in hypnosis, accept the suggestions, and emerge from hypnosis at all times.
No-one can force you to do anything you do not want to do. In other words, you are ALWAYS in control.
Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis is…
software for your mind.
Hypnobabies uses the same medical-grade hypnosis techniques that people employ when preparing for surgery without any drugs, which is called Hypno-anesthesia. Hypnosis can create effective pain elimination for surgeries of all kinds, and it can work very well for childbirth. Your mind is much more powerful than you may realize!
When our Hypno-moms listen to hypnotic childbirth suggestions everyday in their hypnosis scripts or listening to their Hypnobabies program audio tracks, their inner mind becomes “re-trained” to perceive childbirth as easy and comfortable, their birthing waves as pressure, stretching or pulling sensations, and the pushing phase of childbirth as easier and much more efficient. This is just like programming a computer or entering a document into it and giving it a file name so that later you can find and edit or print out that document.
Hypnobabies moms use these hypnosis suggestions, techniques, and mental cues during their baby’s birth, and having been already integrated into the subconscious, they are instantly available. Similar to accessing a specific folder name in your computer and opening up a saved file or document, Hypnobabies hypnosis techniques are accessed with mental and physical cues and are automatically functional.
One of the main hypnosis cues is a mental “lightswitch” that each Hypnosis-mom can use herself; her own “Enter” key on her mental computer. Since hypnosis is cumulative, each time she practices her “lightswitch”, she automatically becomes more deeply primed with Hypnobabies hypnosis cues, just like editing (adding to) a document with more text each time, for later use.
Hypnobabies hypnosis for childbirth is easy to learn, practice, and use with a little bit of education and guidance, as with any new program we learn in life, is best done as directed. We can’t program our own computers without guidance from the experts, and the same is true for childbirth hypnosis.
So what makes Hypnobabies so successful at producing easier, more comfortable births?
Although the philosophy of some hypno-childbirth programs teach women that they will not have pain “if they just relax enough”, most women find that idea to be inaccurate and misleading. If this was a valid theory, literally millions of women would have had pain-free births just from practicing and using the wonderful deep relaxation techniques that are taught in most natural childbirth classes, and that is not the case. For most birthing mothers there is much more that’s needed, physically, mentally, and emotionally to have a comfortable childbirth experience. That’s where medical-grade hypnosis comes in.
Deep, Somnambulistic Hypnosis
In Hypnobabies we use a very deep form of hypnosis which takes moms far beyond deep relaxation and breathing techniques. Hypnobabies successfully utilizes post-hypnotic suggestions; these suggestions for easier, more comfortable birthing, are embedded into the mind so deeply that with the use of one hypnotic cue word during childbirth, their effects are instantly available. In order to create profound physical comfort and the deepest relaxation in your body, as well as a calm, confident attitude, our Hypno-moms need to reach a hypnotic state called somnambulism and listen to their Hypnobabies scripts and audio tracks repeatedly (compounding), and as directed, for the best effect.
Somnambulism is a very deep state of hypnosis where the person looks as if they’re sleeping, but they are not asleep; they are as relaxed physiologically as when they are sleeping but can still be very aware of what is happening around them (IF they want to!). It is in this deep state of hypnosis that the inner mind is so accessible that Hypno-anesthesia can be created.
Profoundly Deep Relaxation
The muscles of a birthing woman’s body, especially the ones around her baby, must be completely and totally relaxed so that they can work efficiently and without any added discomfort from the Fear/Tension/Pain response. Hypnobabies hypnosis training instills automatic conditioning for instant and very deep total body relaxation. In every Hypnobabies hypnosis script, audio track, cue, and technique, deep hypnotic relaxation is practiced so that it becomes a completely automatic response for our moms as soon as they engage their hypnosis.
Fear Clearing Sessions
Through hypnotic suggestions, our Hypno-parents are gently guided to release any fears or concerns and counteract the effects of a lifetime of not-so-encouraging expectations about childbirth. Every birth story an expectant woman reads, sees on TV or in the movies, or listens to during people’s stories about their own birth experiences, helps create her belief system about the process of birth. Hypnobabies Fear Clearing sessions help expectant moms and their Birth partners to let go of prior cultural conditioning, and to transform any fears or concerns they may have about childbirth into a sense of confidence and happy anticipation for their baby’s birth. Releasing fears about birth and the resulting stress reduction, helps our moms’ bodies to relax and function well, to enjoy restful sleep, and to actually enjoy their pregnancies.
