It all sounds too good to be true! Show me the stats!
I get it! I was skeptical as well, but 2 (truly) awesome Hypnobabies births later and I am a passionate advocate of Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis. My experience and the thousands of moms who swear by its methods, is why I chose to become an instructor and to actively share with others, the power of hypnosis in childbirth!
In fact, here's what Hypnobabies moms have to say:
70-75% report very comfortable unmedicated births, with mostly pressure, tightening or mild cramping sensations.
15% report comfortable until transition (typically 8-10 centimeters), with mild to intense degrees of sensation thereafter, but "very manageable.”
10% report comfortable until active labor* (typically 4-7 centimeters), with mild to intense degrees of sensation thereafter. (*Many in this group report labor complications, emotional issues, lack of support, and/or not practicing.)
But don’t just take my word for it- check out some of the amazing Hypnobabies stories for yourself HERE or read about what my Hypnobabies students have to say HERE.
When should I begin taking the course?
Whether you choose to enroll in a live instructor led class series OR complete the Home Study Course, it is recommended that couples begin classes between 28 and 32 weeks into their pregnancies, which leaves plenty of time to practice before baby's birth.
Some people take classes early in their pregnancy, and practicing Hypnobabies helps them to be relaxed, comfortable and confident for the rest of their pregnancies. If a mom wants to start early, she needs to understand that she will be practicing her Hypnobabies hypnosis (audio tracks, scripts, etc.) every day until baby is born.
I think I want an epidural…should i still take a hypnobabies course?
Yes!
Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis is a comprehensive childbirth education course that can benefit ALL pregnant people, regardless of their birth plan. While most women discover Hypnobabies on their pursuit for an unmedicated/natural birth, others like myself, find it by way of searching for something to alleviate (completely normal) fears or anxiety about labor. Still others have found it useful in gaining confidence throughout their pregnancy or to help heal from a previous traumatic birth experience.
Hypnobabies can be especially helpful if there’s an unexpected change of plans!
I am so thankful that I found Hypnobabies to prepare me for my birth experience. I knew going into the class that I felt comfortable using an epidural during my birthing time and Tara never made me feel uncomfortable regarding my choices despite the program being geared toward medication free birth experience. The class provided a wonderful and thorough review of options while keeping a positive mindset. I desperately needed this, especially with the additional anxiety COVID has caused this year. Starting the course and practicing Hypnobabies was really a turning point in my pregnancy. It had such a positive influence on my attitude (those affirmations were the best! I want some for breastfeeding!). Working on the scripts was a wonderful way to bond with my husband, and listening to the tracks provided a structure for much needed relaxation. I feel that the class made a huge difference in how my husband felt about birth, both through education and empowering him to be the most helpful birth partner imaginable :).
When I was abruptly diagnosed with cholestasis and severe pre-eclampsia, we were both able to remain calm and positive about our birthing journey. The midwives and staff constantly commented on how impressed they were with our calm demeanor and positive attitude. I felt empowered about my induction options due to Tara’s great descriptions. I listened to the hypnosis tracks for over 24 hours during my induction. The hospital staff were curious and supportive the whole way through including for my pushing tracks. The MD team was adorable about finding themselves more relaxed and calm!
I don’t think it’s possible to express how happy I am that I made the (last minute!) decision to take this course. I would recommend it to anyone regardless of whether they plan to use an epidural or not. I credit Hypnobabies entirely for allowing me to enjoy my birthing experience despite the hiccups, tubes, interventions, magnesium, and scary new diagnoses. It may not have been a typical Hypnobabies birth, but I feel that Thea came in the way she was supposed to and at the perfect time. My practice with Hypnobabies made it possible for this rather type A medical professional to accept that fully!

Will insurance Pay for Three Rivers Hypnobabies childbirth Classes?
Many do! Check with your Insurance Carrier - some companies will reimburse for the cost of childbirth classes. The insurance CPT code for childbirth classes is S9436. You may also need the Diagnosis code Z32.2, which is specifically for childbirth education. Some Hypno-families have used their Flexible Spending Accounts for Hypnobabies classes, too!
Will Hypnobabies Conflict with my religious beliefs?
The Hypnobabies program is designed for women of every faith and belief system to use. Hypnosis is a normal, everyday state you experience all the time, and Hypnobabies simply guides that process to create a fear-free, comfortable childbirth experience. Countless Hypno-moms are Christian (myself included) and have had wonderful success with Hypnobabies; incorporating their beliefs into the hypnosis scripts and practice, as well as adding prayer into the actual hypnosis when giving birth. Hypnobabies is for any expectant woman who is seeking a safer, more comfortable, self-empowered birth experience, regardless of background, faith or belief system.
